Athletic Training Students Win Scholarships, Prize

Four University of Arkansas students in the athletic training education program recently won scholarships and a poster presentation prize.

Kattie Cottin and Amanda Garrison, first-year master’s students in the College of Education and Health Professions, each won a Richard E. Vandervoort Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $2,300 from the National Athletic Trainers’ Association.

Cottin, of Sturgis, Mich., earned her undergraduate degree from Valparaiso University, and Garrison, of Lexington, Ky., earned her undergraduate degree from Rice University.

Lacey Mainer, also a first-year master’s student, was awarded a scholarship for $750 by the Arkansas Athletic Trainers’ Association. Caitlin Gallion, a first-year master’s student, won first place and $50 for her case study poster presentation. Mainer, of Branch, Ark., received her undergraduate degree from University of the Ozarks, and Gallion, of Auburn, Wash., received her undergraduate degree from Pacific Lutheran University.

Jeff Bonacci, program director and clinical assistant professor, and Brendon McDermott, assistant professor of kinesiology, attended the state association meeting in Rogers on April 20-21 with 17 graduate students in the program.
