Accounting Professor's Paper Recognized With Award

A paper co-authored by Vernon J. Richardson, chair of the accounting department at the Sam M. Walton College of Business, has been recognized with the 2013 Notable Contribution to Accounting Information Systems Literature Award.

Each year, the Information Systems Section of the American Accounting Association singles out one paper for this award. Richardson, Bruce Dehning and Bob Zmud were recognized for their 2003 article in MIS Quarterly, "The Value Relevance of Announcements of Transformational Information Technology Investments." 

The paper has been frequently cited in top-tier journals such as the Journal of Information Systems, MIS Quarterly, The Accounting Review, Decision Sciences and Information Systems Research. According to Google Scholar the paper has been cited more than 240 times, with 55 citations listed in the Social Sciences Citation Index. In addition, it is required reading in many masters and Ph.D. programs in information systems around the world.

Richardson, who holds the S. Robson Walton Chair in Accounting, earned his Ph.D. in accounting from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign after receiving a master of accounting in accounting and information systems from Brigham Young University. He also earned an M.B.A. in finance and a bachelor of science degree in accounting from Brigham Young University.
