University Recreation's Small Group Training offers a unique opportunity to explore a new dimension of fitness by blending group fitness with personal training.

Small Group Training offers classes that focus on a specialized format, individualized progression and skill development. These programs are designed for those who are looking to be challenged with the combination of camaraderie, creative workouts and education on fitness techniques and wellness concepts.

"I've been an athlete all my life and this is the best shape I have ever been in," said Paul Calleja, a regular Small Group Training participant. "Research is coming out regarding 30 minute high- intensity workouts stating that they are very effective compared to other training modalities."

Registered participants receive nine creative workouts each week designed by certified personal trainers incorporating the best techniques for weight loss and strength training. Small Group Training gives participants the opportunity to utilize some of the newest fitness equipment on the market, the Total Gym and the ViPR. Participants are given two fitness assessments per semester, which include blood pressure, body fat percentage, circumferences, strength tests and nutritional feedback.

The Small Group Training semester pass allows participants to attend an unlimited number of classes on the schedule for the entire semester. Classes are offered at various times throughout the day to fit various schedules. Classes are located at the HPER building and the UREC Fitness Center, located on the second floor of the Arkansas Union. The cost for students is $45 and all other UREC membership types are $65.

To register for Small Group Training, purchase a semester pass at the UREC main office located in HPER 225 or at the UREC Fitness Center front desk. Programs are open to all students and UREC members. All sessions are held on a walk-in basis. To view the fall Small Group Training Schedule, click here.
