Tuesday, October 01, 2013

Five U of A women have been selected as members of the 2013 Homecoming Court, and they will vie for Homecoming Queen. Students will vote in the Homecoming Queen elections between 9 a.m. Monday, Oct. 7, and 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, through vote.uark.edu. The Queen will be announced at the Homecoming Pep Rally on Friday, Oct. 11.

The 2013 Homecoming Court members along with their class years, majors, and nominating organizations are:

  • Kaprisha Fields – senior advertising/public relations major nominated by the National Society of Black Engineers
  • Elaina Blando – senior psychology major nominated by Panhellenic Council
  • Holly Hilliard – senior industrial engineering major nominated by Pi Beta Phi
  • Maggie Jo Pruitt – senior agricultural education, communication and technology major nominated by Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow
  • Autumn Lewis – senior political science/economics major nominated by Associated Student Government and Young Democrats

The campuswide Homecoming Court Selection Committee announced the 2013 Homecoming Court Tuesday. Homecoming Court represents both school spirit and pride for the University of Arkansas and one of the oldest and most storied traditions. All University of Arkansas women nominated by a registered student organization were eligible for Homecoming Court.

Homecoming Court members will participate in the Homecoming Parade, Homecoming pre-game and other events during Homecoming week (Sunday, Oct. 6, through Saturday, Oct. 12). The football game halftime show will feature the full court and crowning of the Homecoming Queen.

Student leaders from Associated Student Government and Student Alumni Board, as well as staff from across the Division of Student Affairs, selected the Homecoming Court from 28 nominees by a dual-round interview process. The committee reviewed 28 applications along with resumes and responses to essay questions, narrowing the list to 20 women. The top 20 women interviewed with the committee, who then selected 10 finalists. These women then completed a longer, more comprehensive interview with the committee, who voted on the top five to submit to the student body as the 2013 Homecoming Court.
