University Housing and Fulbright College Advising Center Establish Satellite Advising Office

The Fulbright College Advising Center in the division of Academic Affairs and University Housing in the division of Student Affairs are pleased to announce a partnership that brings academic advising to the arts and sciences majors living in the Maple Hill complex.

Daniel Jordan, a Fulbright College adviser, said, "I want the students to see academic advising as more than just course selection. Choosing classes is a big part of what we do, but we also aid students in declaring and changing their majors, adding or dropping classes, understanding policies, and just adjusting to college life at the University of Arkansas."

Trevor Francis, director of the Fulbright College Advising Center, said, "Having a presence in Maple Hill will allow us to serve a greater number of students in a more efficient and relaxed manner. We're glad to be able to offer this new opportunity to our students."

The residents of Maple Hill agreed. Samantha Harris recently visited the on-site advising location to change her major and choose spring 2014 classes. While meeting with Jordan, Harris said, "I'm really glad you're here. This makes it so much easier for me, since I just live in Maple Hill West."

Daniel Pugh, vice provost for student affairs and dean of students, along with Florence Johnson, executive director of University Housing, were instrumental in moving this partnership forward. In recognition of the importance of creating opportunities for students to get access to the advising process this satellite advising center was established.

Stephanie G. Adams, associate director for academic engagement in University Housing, said, "This is a significant partnership between an academic unit and housing facility, expect future collaborations to be just as significant."

At this time the Maple Hill walk-in advising center is only open to students living in the Maple Hill complex, however students who would like to make an advising appointment can contact the Fulbright College Advising Center at 479-575-3307.
