Schola Cantorum to celebrate 100th birthday of composer Benjamin Britten.

FAYETTEVILLE -- This Friday, the University of Arkansas Schola Cantorum will present a concert celebrating the centenary of composer Benjamin Britten. Britten (1913-1976) was one of the most famous and important composers of the 20th century. Throughout the world, musicians are celebrating his music with concerts, lectures, and retrospectives. The Schola Cantorum's concert is an officially sanctioned concert of the Britten/Pears Foundation, and the only such concert in Arkansas this year. Dr. Stephen Caldwell will conduct the Schola Cantorum with guest organists from the university and from the American Guild of Organists.
The students are excited about presenting this music. Senior singer and music major Taz Anderson commented that "Britten's music is challenging and enriching for the ensemble, and we really like his music." Junior Stephanie Farkas said that she likes Britten's music because it "is so diverse, there is something for everybody."
The concert is at 7:30 p.m. Friday Nov. 8, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church on Dickson St. It is free and open to the public.
