An Inside Perspective on International Aid Effectiveness
An employee of IDinsight measures the mid-upper arm circumference of a child attending a government-run preschool in Bihar, India. This measurement is commonly used to assess wasting in children under five.
Honors College alumnus Stuart Shirrell is getting first-hand experience evaluating social programs around the world thanks to his job with IDinsight, a non-profit consulting firm. Over the past 18 months, he has helped to evaluate a rural sanitation program in Cambodia, a preschool nutrition program in India, and a malaria program in Uganda.
"Working for IDinsight has been a fantastic opportunity for me to apply both my math skills and my study abroad experience to some of the developing world's toughest problems,” he wrote in a recent email.
Shirrell, who graduated magna cum laude in 2011 with a Bachelor of Science, will share his experience and insights at a fireside chat, “An Inside Perspective on International Aid Effectiveness,” from 5-6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10 in the Honors Student Lounge in Ozark Hall. Light refreshments will be served.
