Bill, Judy Schwab Honored for Contribution to the Arts

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Bill and Judy Schwab were given the 2013 Arts Advocate Award to celebrate their passion for the arts. They received the award Thursday, Nov. 21, at the 2013 TheatreSquared Gala for Education.

The Arts Advocate Award recognizes the Schwabs’ contributions to the arts and to the Northwest Arkansas community through leadership, inspiration and hard work.

Judy Schwab is a former English teacher at Fayetteville High School, where she was highly commended for launching the advanced placement language and composition program and the literary magazine Connotations. She currently serves as the vice chancellor for administration at the University of Arkansas as well as the vice chair of the Walton Arts Center Board of Directors.

Bill Schwab is a university professor of sociology and former dean of the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences. He also is the author of four books and scores of articles. His most recent scholarship has focused on the Arkansas Hispanic community and on undocumented children and youth. He has also acted as the university’s liaison with Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art.

TheatreSquared is a nationally acclaimed production company. It includes Northwest Arkansas’ only year-round professional theatre. The Gala for Education is the organization’s signature event celebrating innovative arts learning.
