FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Stephanie Pierce, assistant professor of painting in the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences, will give a lecture at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, in room 213 of the Fine Arts Center.

Pierce will discuss her development as a painter and her current work featured in New Faculty Exhibition: Stephanie Pierce and Cynthia Nourse Thompson, which has been on display in the Fine Arts Center Gallery since Tuesday, Jan. 21, and will remain open until Sunday, Feb. 23.

“I make paintings that are based on perception of things as they change, mostly due to the light as it changes,” said Pierce. “Over long periods of time, information is built up and eventually begins to breakdown into an abstract representation of what reality looks like, or what the experience of understanding looks like.”

Pierces is represented by Steven Harvey Fine Art Projects in New York and Alpha Gallery in Boston. Her work has been exhibited in many galleries including the Henry Art Gallery, Space Gallery, Art Chicago and Argazzi Art. She was also awarded an Arkansas Arts Council Individual Artist Fellowship in 2012.

The exhibition features work from Pierce and Cynthia Nourse Thompson, associate professor of printmaking.

“The show looks great and the department is thrilled to have such stellar faculty,” said Jeannie Hulen, associate professor of ceramics and chair of the department of art.

Pierce’s lecture will follow a reception for the exhibition at 5 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center Gallery. The exhibition is free and open to the public. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. More information about the exhibition and artists is available at the Fine Arts Center Gallery website.
