Google Technical Issue Affects Student Mailboxes
IT Services is sending personalized notifications regarding a Google technical issue that caused some students’ UARK Gmail messages to be incorrectly moved to Trash or Spam folders. The underlying issue was resolved, but IT Services recommends that affected students check their Trash and Spam folders for unread or important messages.
Mailboxes were affected between Jan. 15 and 21. Actions performed in the iOS Gmail app or mobile browsers (such as deleting, marking as spam, etc.) intended for some messages were inadvertently and unexpectedly applied to other messages. This issue, caused by a Gmail software bug, did not affect actions performed using a Web browser or the Android Gmail app.
Affected messages can be restored by moving them to the Inbox or a folder. Items remaining in Trash and Spam folders will be permanently deleted beginning Feb. 14. Gmail automatically deletes Trash and Spam folder messages every 30 days.
