More Winter Weather in the Forecast; Be Sure to Get Latest Inclement Weather Messages

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Shadow, shmadow. The ground hog obviously decided to stay in his burrow Sunday to watch the Super Bowl, and now the rest of us are stuck with more winter weather.

Snow, ice and freezing temperatures are forecast for this weekend as well as the early part of next week. That could mean classes at the University of Arkansas could be affected — possibly delayed or canceled — and that offices could either open late or be closed.

Once university officials decide what action to take, the campus community will be notified by text, email and phone messages through the U of A inclement weather alert system. Email notices go to all students, faculty and staff automatically – but only if they are signed up for them. It’s the same for text and phone messages. You don’t get the messages unless you ask for them.

Students can designate one phone number to receive text messages and add as many as six phone numbers to receive voice messages. Phone messages are faster than email, but slower than text.

Faculty and staff f can authorize up to three phone numbers for an inclement weather text or voice message alert.  

The U of A also posts inclement weather messages on its homepage, Facebook page and Twitter account. Messages are also available by calling the University of Arkansas Weather Hotline at 575-7000.
