ISIS Offers Mobile Options

The ISIS Team has successfully launched a new mobile version of the system’s three most popular components: Student Center, Faculty Center and Advisor Center. The new ISIS Mobile allows students, faculty and advisors to easily access academic information without the need to be sitting at a computer.

Students had the first opportunity to use ISIS Mobile during priority registration for spring classes. “I found that ISIS Mobile was really easy to use and much more convenient than using a computer,” said Caitlin Allison, a sophomore education major. “I was able to see which classes were open and when seconds count to get in the class you want, it’s helpful to have ISIS in the palm of your hand.”

With the addition of the Faculty Center in December and the Advisor Center last month, use of ISIS Mobile has skyrocketed. And the numbers show that it has become a popular option. On the day prior to, and the first day of class this semester, more than 92,000 mobile transactions took place in ISIS.

ISIS Mobile works with all mobile operating systems without the need to download a separate app. It automatically detects the type of device being used, such as a tablet or smartphone, and renders the information to fit the screen. It works seamlessly with the underlying ISIS architecture, displaying the same information available on the computer in a format that works with mobile devices.

“It is important to us that we offer our students and faculty easy access to ISIS information in a format designed for the electronic devices they are using today,” said Dave Dawson, registrar and associate vice provost for enrollment services. “The positive feedback we have received, combined with the impressive number of mobile transactions, tells us that ISIS Mobile is a great option for our campus.”

Members of the ISIS student and faculty user groups played important roles in the successful debut of ISIS Mobile. “Information provided by our user groups was invaluable in determining the features we should offer in our mobile option,” Dawson added. The two groups also assisted in testing the mobile offerings before components were released to the campus.
