Can We Resist Dogma, Fanaticism, War, Empire?

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Learn more about the Fulbright legacy of peace through education by attending “J. William Fulbright: A Voice for Reason and Diplomacy” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, in Old Main’s Giffels Auditorium. The discussion of Fulbright’s resistance to dogma, fanaticism, war and empire during the 1960s to 1980s will feature two current Fulbright College professors and one professor emeritus.
Each presenter will address these topics from the perspective of one of Fulbright’s books. Hoyt Purvis, professor of journalism and international relations, will focus on The Arrogance of Power (1966). Sidney Burris, professor of English and director of the Fulbright College Honors Program, will address The Crippled Giant (1972). Dick Bennett, professor emeritus of English, will concentrate on The Price of Empire (1989).
The panel is designed to encourage students, faculty, staff and the public to read Fulbright’s books and is sponsored by the OMNIUA student organization.
