This Week in the Visual and Performing Arts: March 7-14

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – March features many recitals, concerts and art exhibitions in the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences. Students, faculty, staff and guests are encouraged to attend these on-campus and off-campus events in the visual and performing arts.

Janelle Hollister will give a voice recital at 6 p.m. Friday, March 7, in the Fine Arts Center’s Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

Also on Friday in Stella Boyle Smith, Judd Burns will give a voice recital at 8 p.m.

Guest artist Marcos Machado will play double bass accompanied by Ney Fialkow on piano at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 8, in Hillside Auditorium room 202.

Guest artists h2 Saxophone Quartet will perform at 1 p.m. Sunday, March 9, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

Also on Sunday, Bees for Bach: A Concert of Bach Arias will be held at 1:30 p.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Fayetteville. Performers include music instructor Theresa Delaplain on oboe, assistant professor Moon-Sook Park singing soprano and professor Robert Mueller on piano and instructor Johan Botes on organ. This concert is a fundraiser to purchase bees for Heifer International.

Also on Sunday, the University of Arkansas Classical Guitar Ensemble will give a concert at 7 p.m. in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

The German Club will present Im Juli / In July (Faith Akin, Germany 2000) at 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 10, in Old Main’s Giffels Auditorium.

Also on Monday, Lyrique Quintette will perform at 7:30 p.m. in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

Mallory Bennett will give a voice recital at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

Also on Tuesday in Stella Boyle Smith, Kailey Miller will give a voice recital at 7:30 p.m.

David Malis will give a voice recital at 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

Also on Wednesday in Stella Boyle Smith, Stephen J. Byars will give a tuba recital at 8 p.m.

Schola Cantorum will perform a concert tour farewell at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 13, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall. They will perform another concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 14 at the First United Methodist Church in Rogers.

A display of work by visiting artist Carson Fox and examples of printmaking by students continues in the Fine Arts Center hallway exhibition cases until Friday, March 14.

Faith and the Devil, an installation by Lesley Dill continues until Friday, April 4, in the Fine Arts Center Gallery. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Divide Light continues until Sunday, April 13, in the Joy Pratt Markham Gallery at the Walton Arts Center. Gallery hours are 9 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, and one hour prior to most Walton Arts Center performances.
