SEAR Recognized at Regional Conference Held on U of A Campus
SEAR's exhibit at the 2014 BACCHUS Area 6 Spring Conference.
The BACCHUS Area 6 Spring Conference was held on campus Feb. 28 to March 1, and the peer education group, Substance Education and Alcohol Resources, was honored with the Outstanding Conference Exhibit Table Award.
The title of SEAR’s table was “Knowledge is the Cure,” which satirically used a zombie theme to discuss ways to keep yourself and your friends safe when alcohol is involved through bystander intervention.
The purpose of this exhibit was to shed light on the fact that, “everyone already has the ability to be an active bystander, and intervene to help someone who they may see who is at risk of endangering themselves or someone else, but it takes knowledge and experience to be able to successfully implement what they know,” said Debbie Morgan, substance abuse prevention coordinator and advisor to SEAR.
Some key points of the exhibit included: having a designated driver, know your own limits, charge your phone ahead of time, and stay with your friends.
