University of Arkansas vocal and oboe students and faculty performed a fundraiser concert on March 9 for Heifer International charity. The “Bees for Bach” concert, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, raises money to buy beehives and beekeeper training for needy families. When the families receive the gift of bees and training, they are able to use that as an income source and become self-sufficient. The bees also increase their crop yield.

The concert, which was all music by J.S. Bach, raised $1,020, enough to provide bees for 34 families.  University of Arkansas music department faculty who were involved in the concert were Theresa Delaplain, oboe; Moon-Sook Park, soprano; Robert Mueller, organ; and Johan Botes, organ.  Students who were involved were: Oboists Maigen Anderson, Andrew Baker, Elvis Barksdale, Christopher Barnett, Tori Bingham, Kaitlin Moos, Grant Simms, and Emily Thompson.  Singers: Mallory Bennett, Amanda Brooks, Judd Burns, Jennifer Garrison, Kailly Miller, Tori Rudolph, and Leanne Scaggs.  Other instrumentalists: Erica Downs and Anna Hall.
