This Week in the Visual and Performing Arts: March 31-April 4

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences will feature recitals, concerts, performances and art exhibitions as we return from spring break. Students, faculty, staff and guests are encouraged to attend these on-campus and off-campus events in the visual and performing arts.

Rachel Phillippe will give a violin recital at 6 p.m. Monday, March 31, in the Fine Arts Center’s Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

CANCELED: A recital by David Malis, assistant professor of voice, scheduled for Monday, March 31, had to be canceled.

Aroma Concert: Interdisciplinary Collaboration Between Food Science and Music Faculty Members will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall. There will be another concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 3, at First United Presbyterian Church in Fayetteville.

Also on Thursday, visiting artist Dornith Doherty will give a lecture at 5:30 p.m. in room 213 of the Fine Arts Center. Doherty is an environmentalist, photographer and professor of photography at the University of North Texas.

The Harrison Opera Foundation presents Laura Alkin singing soprano at 8:15 p.m. Thursday, April 3, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall. The concert will also feature Donald Sulzen on piano. Tickets are available through the Walton Arts Center Box Office.

Faith and the Devil, an installation by Lesley Dill will close Friday, April 4. The exhibit may be viewed from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center Gallery..

The department of drama will present Hot Off the Page Play Festival  Friday, April 4, in Kimpel room 404. A new work by Betty Anderson will begin at 6:30 p.m. and Robert Flaherty Hart will present Poor Relations at 7:30 p.m. Seating is limited.

Also on Friday, guest artist Joachim Reinhuber will give a piano concert at 7:30 p.m. in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall. Johan Botes, instructor of piano, will also perform.

Divide Light continues until Sunday, April 13, in the Joy Pratt Markham Gallery at the Walton Arts Center. Gallery hours are 9 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, and one hour prior to most Walton Arts Center performances.

This edition of “This Week in the Visual and Performing Arts” is abbreviated due to Spring Break. The Friday-to-Friday format will return at the end of the week. All events are free and open to the public unless otherwise noted. This is not a comprehensive list. Please refer to the University of Arkansas events calendar for more information.
