FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Jean Tyson Child Development Study Center on the University of Arkansas campus is currently enrolling new students for the 2014 summer and fall terms. Enrollment is open to the general public in addition to the university community.

The center, which is part of the School of Human Environmental Sciences in the Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Services, serves children beginning at the age of eight weeks through the time they enter kindergarten. Teachers and staff provide developmentally appropriate education for infants, toddlers and preschoolers. The Jean Tyson Center is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children.

“There are 6,788 NAEYC-accredited programs for young children in the United States, and we are the only one in Northwest Arkansas,” said Vernoice Baldwin, executive director of educational programs. The center ranks among the top 10 percent of private-sector childcare facilities in the country.

The Jean Tyson Child Development Study Center’s team of teachers is credited with delivering on the National Association for the Education of Young Children’s high standards.

“The two primary teachers in each classroom have professional degrees, and thus the abilities needed to recognize children’s development and to plan for the children where they are currently and the direction of their emerging skills,” said Baldwin.

The center also serves as a learning lab school for University of Arkansas students.

“By serving as a lab school, our teachers not only educate young children, but are also a crucial element of educating university students from several disciplines across campus,” said Baldwin. “We feel very privileged to offer a quality, full-service child development center to the Fayetteville and university communities.”
