Northwest Arkansas Suicide Prevention Coalition Announces New Community Resource Center

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Members of the Northwest Arkansas Suicide Prevention Coalition will announce the opening of a new Community Resource Center at Vantage Point of Northwest Arkansas in Fayetteville. The announcement will be made during an event from 10 a.m. to noon on Friday, April 11, in the auditorium of the Donald W. Reynolds Enterprise Center at the University of Arkansas.

The U of A School of Social Work and the Phi Alpha National Honor Society at the university are both part of the Northwest Arkansas Suicide Prevention Coalition.

Clark Flatt, president of the Jason Foundation, Inc., will be a keynote speaker during the event. The Jason Foundation, Inc. was founded in October of 1997 after the suicide of Clark’s youngest son, Jason, and had become one of the nation’s leading non-profit organizations addressing the “Silent Epidemic” of youth suicide.

  • Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death for youth ages 12-18.
  • Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death for young adults ages 18-22.
  • Each day in the U.S. there are an average of 5,400 suicide attempts by young people in grades 7-12.

The opening of the new Community Resource Center at Vantage Point of Northwest Arkansas will be the latest addition to 89 other Regional Offices across the country.

Mr. Flatt will be available to the media during and after the event to answer questions regarding the impact of youth suicides in our nation.
