This Week in the Visual and Performing Arts: April 11-18

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences continues its events in the visual and performing arts throughout April. Students, faculty, staff and guests are encouraged to attend the following play, film screening, exhibition, concerts and lectures.

Guest scholar Petr Janata will give a lecture on the cognitive science of music at 2 p.m. Friday, April 11, in Mullins Library room 104.

Also on Friday, William Brani will give a saxophone recital at 6 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center’s Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

Later in Stella Boyle Smith, the University of Arkansas New Music Ensemble will perform at 8 p.m.

Jessica Carvin-Watkins will give a flute recital at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 12, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

Also on Saturday in Stella Boyle Smith, Daniel Dyer will give a composition recital at 8:30 p.m.

Divide Light, an art exhibition by McIlroy Family Visiting Professor Leslie Dill, will close Sunday, April 13. The exhibit may be seen in the Joy Pratt Markham Gallery at the Walton Arts Center from 9 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, and one hour prior to most Walton Arts Center performances.

The African and African American studies program and the department of drama present The Bluest Eye at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 13, and 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 14, in the Arkansas Union Theatre.

The University of Arkansas Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band will perform at 7:30 p.m., Sunday, April 13, at Bentonville High School’s Arend Arts Center.

 

Also on Sunday, Jack Pearlman will give a guitar recital at 3 p.m. in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

Later in Stella Boyle Smith, Hyeon-min Jang (soprano) and Michael Rothmeyer (tenor) will give voice recitals at 6 p.m. and 7 p.m., and the department of music annual honors recital will begin at 8:30 p.m.

The Wind Symphony and Concert Band will perform at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 14, at Bentonville High School’s Arend Arts Center.

Also on Monday, Guest pianist Ratko Delorko will perform at 8 p.m. in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

Anna Hall will give a flute recital at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

Also on Tuesday in Stella Boyle Smith, Timothy Thompson, professor of music, will present a French horn studio recital at 8 p.m.

Nophachai Cholthitchanta, associate professor of music will present a clarinet studio recital at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

Also on Wednesday, Nadi Cinema presents Kif al-Haal?/How’s it Going? (Saudi Arabia 2006) at 7 p.m. in Mullins Library room 104.

Visiting artist Carson Fox will give a lecture at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 17, in the Fine Arts Center room 213.

Also on Thursday, the University of Arkansas Percussion Ensemble will perform at 7:30 p.m. at Fayetteville High School.

At the same time, the University of Arkansas Trumpet Ensemble will perform in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

Jason Forte will give a piano recital at 6 p.m. Friday, April 18, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

Also on Friday in Stella Boyle Smith, Catalina Barraza will give a violin recital at 8 p.m.
