Provost Announces Internal Search for Vice Provost for Academic Affairs

Provost Sharon Gaber announces that an internal search is being conducted for a vice provost for academic affairs. 

The vice provost for academic affairs serves the campus and provost’s office in a variety of ways. The individual needed for this position must be able to balance multiple issues and talk to varying stakeholder groups, such as faculty, administrators, parents, students, state agencies and others. This is a full-time, 12-month position for a tenured, full professor.

The selected candidate must have five years of experience as an associate dean or department head/chair so that they understand policies, processes and budgeting at the University of Arkansas. The selected candidate should also have knowledge of undergraduate and graduate student issues, as well as faculty governance issues/ guidelines and academic policies.  The start date is June 1, 2014.

The vice provost for academic affairs oversees the following areas:

  • Inquiry Magazine
  • Academic honesty policy
  • Associate Deans Group
  • Summer School
  • Curriculum approval
  • Resolving student issues
  • Coordination with Arkansas Department of Higher Education, Higher Learning Commission and program review process
  • Other duties, as assigned.
