FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – There’s plenty of to stress about at the end of the semester: preparing for finals, packing to leave campus and friends, looking for a job. Don’t add fear of having your things stolen to the list. Thieves are looking for chances to strike, especially this time of year, but there are a few small things you can do to greatly reduce your chance of being a victim.

  • Keep your doors locked at all times In the vast majority of residence hall burglaries the room door was left unlocked.
  • Don’t leave property unattended in public places. Textbooks, cell phones, laptops, I-pods, I-pads, and even jackets.  These are the most commonly reported stolen items on campus.
  • Don’t leave valuables in your vehicle. Theft from a motor vehicle in university parking lots and parking decks is one of the most common types of theft on campus.
  • Immediately report any suspicious activity. Witnesses often come forward after crimes were committed to say they saw someone checking doors or looking in vehicles.  Reporting that can prevent a crime.

Remember that this is prime time for property crime.  Be careful and aware. It’s a good way to start a great summer.
