This Week in the Visual and Performing Arts: May 2-10
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences will host several concerts and art exhibitions this week. Students, faculty, staff and guests are encouraged to attend these events in the visual and performing arts.
Synthetic Constructive, an Master of Fine Arts thesis exhibition by Jon McDaniel, will close Friday, May 2. The exhibit may be viewed from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. A reception will follow at 5 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center Gallery.
Also on Friday, Music Outreach will present its Spring Concert at 7 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center’s Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.
The department of art’s annual BA and BFA Awards and Scholarship Exhibition, will close Saturday, May 3. The exhibit has been on display since April 28 at sUgAR, the university’s student gallery, 1 East Center St. in Fayetteville. The gallery is open noon-5 p.m. Thursday and 1-6 p.m. Friday. Contact the gallery at (479) 575-5202 for additional hours. Exhibiting artists include Natalie Brown, Zoe Eagan, Kris Johnson, Ashley Lindsey, Jessie Philips, Colleen Poplawski, Michael Ramirez, Jesse Turner, Courtney Ulrich and Elise Raborg.
Extemporaneous Explorations will hold a concert featuring guest artist Ryan Cockerham (violin), faculty members Robert Mueller, Er-Gene Kahng and Jim Greeson at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 4, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.
Also on Sunday in Stella Boyle Smith, Yulia Orlova will give a piano recital at 3:30 p.m. and the students of Jura Margulis will give a piano studio recital at 8 p.m.
Anatomies of Melancholy, an exhibition by Lindsy Barquist will open Monday, May 5 in the Fine Arts Center Gallery. The show will close with a reception at 5 p.m. Friday, May 9. Gallery hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday.
The University Wind Symphony will give a pre-ceremony concert for the Spring All-University Commencement Ceremony at 8:15 a.m. Saturday, May 10, in Bud Walton Arena.
