FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Godwin-Charles Ogbeide, associate professor of hospitality in the Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences at the University of Arkansas, has been elected to the position of director of membership for the International Council on Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Education for 2014-15.

Founded in 1946, the International Council on Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Education is the global advocate of hospitality and tourism education for schools, colleges and universities offering programs in hotel and restaurant management, food-service management and culinary arts. The nonprofit professional association provides programs and services to continually improve the quality of education, research, service and business operations in the hospitality and tourism industry.

Ogbeide, who teaches in the School of Human Environmental Sciences, recently published a book, Revenue Management, Cost Control, and Financial Analysis in the Hospitality Industry, which offers students a step-by-step spreadsheet approach to accounting and financial analysis to teach budgeting and other financial skills required in the hospitality industry.

He also recently teamed with Robert Harrington, who holds the 21st Century Endowed Chair of Hospitality at the University of Arkansas, to win the Johnson & Wales Case Study Competition Award in the institute’s case study competition. Their case, titled “Leadership and Management in a Family Business Setting,” focused on issues related to succession planning, decision-making and leadership in an independent multi-unit restaurant setting.

Ogbeide, who earned his master’s and doctorate with emphasis in hospitality management and leadership development from the University of Missouri, specializes in areas including meetings and event innovation, leadership development, revenue management and financial analysis in the hospitality industry.
