This Week in the Visual and Performing Arts: Sept. 19-26

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences will host art exhibits, plays and concerts this week. Students, faculty, staff and guest are encouraged to attend these events in the visual and performing arts.

The University of Arkansas Schola Cantorum will perform the National Anthem on Razorback Field at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, before the women’s soccer team takes on Kentucky. Admission is $4.

The Razorback Marching Band and Schola Cantorum will present Hometown Heroes, a halftime show dedicated to the United States military, when the Arkansas Razorbacks take on the Northern Illinois Huskies Saturday, Sept. 20, at Donald W. Reynolds Stadium in Fayetteville.

Justin Hunter, a staff member in the Department of Music, will present Journey the World of Music: North America and the Caribbean at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. The class begins at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, in the University of Arkansas Global Campus Building on the Fayetteville Square. Tuition is $39 for OLLI members and $54 for non-members.

The Department of Art will host a reception for Stationary Realms, an exhibit by multiple artists, at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, in the Fine Arts Center Gallery. The exhibit opened Monday, Sept. 8, and will remain on display until Friday, Oct. 24.

Also on Thursday, Department of Theatre will present Poor Relations by Robert Flaherty Hart at 7:30 p.m. in Kimpel Hall’s Studio 404. Tickets are $5 for students, $8 for faculty, staff, and seniors and $10 for adults. Seating is limited.

Schola Cantorum will sing the National Anthem at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26, before the women’s volleyball game in Barnhill Arena.

The play V is for Violin by Brittany Taylor, will open at 7:30 p.m. Friday Sept. 26, in Kimpel Hall’s Studio 404. Tickets are $5 for students, $8 for faculty, staff, and seniors and $10 for adults. Seating is limited.

Navigating Nevelson, an art exhibition created by architecture students, remains on display this week at sUgAR, the student art gallery. It will close Friday, Sept. 26. The gallery is located at 1 East Square Plaza in Fayetteville and is open Monday and Wednesday 3:30-6:30 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

A display of student artwork from the Painting I classes continues this month in the Fine Arts Center hallway exhibition cases.
