Workshop Set for Students Planning to Apply for Graduate Fellowships
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas Office of Nationally Competitive Awards is hosting a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship program workshop on Saturday, Sept. 27, from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in Ozark Hall, Room 232.
Seniors and first-year graduate students studying in STEM, social science, or related fields are encouraged to attend. The workshop will focus on the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship, as well as other post-graduate opportunities, including the National Defense Science Engineering Graduate Fellowship, the Oak Ridge Associated Universities scholarships and fellowships, the Hertz Fellowship, and others.
Discussion will cover the guidelines, benefits, and deadlines of each program as well as a review of the application process. A faculty panel of NSF reviewers including Professors Magda El-Shenawee, Bob Beitle, and Dennis Brewer will discuss strategies for applying to the NSF Graduate Research program. The session will conclude with a writing workshop. Applicants will have the opportunity to discuss the written portions of their applications with the NSF panelists and Office of Nationally Competitive Awards staff. Those attending should bring drafts of their personal statements and/or research plans. Last year 12 U of A students, past and present, received NSF funding.
