Ozark Society Foundation Publishes Second Edition of 'Butterflies and Moths'

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Ozark Society Foundation, whose books are distributed by the University of Arkansas Press, has published a second edition of Arkansas Butterflies and Moths ($29.95 paper), by Lori A. Spencer, with Don R. Simons as principal photographer.

The book builds on the very successful first edition, making several important improvements. Species identification is facilitated through detailed text entries alongside full-size photographs. All butterfly species in the state are included. Many photographs of live butterflies and larvae are used, and butterfly gardening and prime butterfly-watching locations in the state are covered. In total, 264 species descriptions are listed.

Lori A. Spencer is a professional entomologist, lepidopterist, and certified heritage interpreter whose nature programs are in wide demand throughout Arkansas. She will be signing Arkansas Butterflies and Moths at Mount Magazine State Park Lodge on Saturday, Sept. 27; Botanical Gardens of the Ozarks in Fayetteville on Sunday, Oct. 19; the Green Corner Store in Little Rock on Saturday, Nov. 1; and Mount Magazine State Park Visitor Center on Saturday, Dec. 6.

The Ozark Society, founded in 1962, operates under the motto “Conservation-Education-Recreation,” and all its activities revolve around this theme. The society’s educational goals are carried out through its “Pack & Paddle” newsletter, public speaking engagements, seminars and position papers on various conservation issues. In addition, the tax exempt Ozark Society Foundation serves as the publishing arm of the society’s educational program, producing high-quality hardback and paperback books on a variety of outdoor recreation and natural resource subjects. This “Books for Outdoor People” series includes canoeing guides to waterways like the Buffalo, Mulberry and Cadron Creek, two identification guides to native wildflowers, a guide to the trees, shrubs and vines of Arkansas, a natural and human history of the high Ozarks, a reprint of the Arkansas Natural Area Plan, and a series of maps to the state’s established national forest wilderness areas.

The University of Arkansas Press, founded in 1980, is an academic publishing house that is part of the University of Arkansas.
