FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Dean Mike Vayda of the Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences at the University of Arkansas presented faculty service awards and established a new award at the college’s recent Faculty Recognition Reception.

The first award was presented to Jeff Miller, professor in the Department of Agricultural Education, Communications and Technology. Miller received the International Education Award, which is in recognition of notable efforts to international programs and study abroad initiatives that increase the marketability of students to employers and graduate programs.

Vayda then moved to the service awards and honored University Professor Fred M. Stephen for 40 years of service in the Department of Entomology. Stephen’s primary area of research is ecology and the dynamics of forest insects. He has authored or coauthored more than 130 publications.

Crop, soil and environmental sciences department head and professor Robert Bacon, agricultural economics and agribusiness professor Bruce Dixon, plant pathology professors Terry Kirkpatrick and John Rupe, and food science University Professor Terry Siebenmorgen were all presented awards for 30 years of service.

Poultry science immunologist and professor Gisela Erf was recognized for 20 years of service at the U of A.

All the honored faculty also hold research appointments in the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture.

The reception was held at Fayetteville Country Club on Sept. 18.

Vayda also thanked all faculty members for their work and dedication, and recognized retired faculty members in attendance.
