This Week in the Visual and Performing Arts: Sept. 26-Oct. 3

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences will hold many events in the coming week including theater productions, recitals and art exhibits. Students, faculty, staff and guests are encouraged to attend these performances in the visual and performing arts.

Navigating Nevelson, an art exhibition created by architecture students, closes Friday, Sept. 26. The exhibiition is on display at sUgAR, the student art gallery, located at 1 East Square Plaza in Fayetteville. The gallery is open Monday and Wednesday 3:30-6:30 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

The University of Arkansas Schola Cantorum will perform the National Anthem at the Women's Volleyball game Friday, Sept. 26, at 7 p.m. in Barnhill Arena.

Cory Mixdorf, assistant professor of music, will give a trombone recital accompanied by Miroslava Panayotova, at 730 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, in the Fine Arts Center’s Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

Godspell, a well-loved Broadway musical, will be performed at 8 p.m. Oct. 3, 4 and 8–11, at 2 p.m. Oct. 5 and 12, and at 7 p.m. Oct. 5 in the University Theatre.  Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors, faculty, and staff, and $5 for students.

Guest artist Justin Benavidez, assistant professor of tuba and euphonium at Texas A&M University, will give a tuba recital at 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

Poor Relations by Robert Flaherty Hart, continues until Sept. 28 in Studio 404, located in room 404 of Kimpel Hall. Performances begin at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, and at 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $5 for students, $8 for faculty, staff, and seniors and $10 for adults. Seating is limited.

Also continuing until Sept. 28, V is for Violin, a play by Brittany Taylor. Performances begin at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Sunday, and 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $5 for students, $8 for faculty, staff, and seniors and $10 for adults. Seating is limited.

A display of student artwork from the Painting I classes continues this month in the Fine Arts Center hallway exhibition cases.

Stationary Realms, an exhibit by multiple artists, will remain on display through Friday, Oct. 24, in the Fine Arts Center Gallery. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
