Mathematical Sciences Colloquium
The Mathematical Sciences Colloquia Series hosts Professor Bennett Palmer of Idaho State University who will present “Anisotropic surface energies,” Thursday, Oct. 2, from 3:30-4:20 p.m. in SCEN 101.
Anisotropic surface energies are used to model the interface between immiscible materials when at least one of the materials is in an ordered phase (e.g. crystal, liquid crystal). Palmer will discuss the variational theory related to this type of energy and the results characterizing stable equilibrium surfaces and the corresponding flow.
A reception for the speaker will be at 3 p.m. in SCEN 350.
The event is open to the public.
