The Journal of Visualized Experiments (JoVE) is a PubMed-indexed video journal.

The University of Arkansas Libraries is pleased to announce the acquisition of JoVE, the world's first peer-reviewed scientific video journal. Established in 2006, JoVE’s mission is to increase productivity in scientific research by publishing in a visual format. The videos help researchers improve the reproducibility of experiments and decrease the time and labor necessary to learn new experimental techniques.

The Libraries have subscribed to two of JoVE’s research sections, Applied Physics and Neuroscience, as well to a section in JoVE’s Science Education database, General Laboratory Techniques.

Inside the research sections, users can search by keyword, filter by author or institution, and filter by publication date. Applied Physics encompasses a broad range of experimental and instrumental techniques utilized in physics research. Neuroscience is a multidisciplinary section devoted to investigations of the structure, function, physiology, and pathophysiology of the brain and nervous system.

The General Laboratory Techniques section presents videos on a wide variety of lab techniques that will be especially helpful to students new to working in labs. These tutorials show viewers how to use standard pieces of lab equipment essential in many experiments, as well as how to perform basic lab functions. Each video is paired with additional resources connecting viewers to practical applications of the technique, or to corresponding skills. Tutorials in this section include “Introduction to Fluorescence Microscopy” and “Understanding Concentration and Measuring Volumes.”

University of Arkansas users can connect to JoVE through the database portal on the Libraries’ homepage. Users can also take a brief survey to let librarians know how this new resource adds value to research, teaching, or course work.
