The Outdoor Connection Center, a program area of the department of University Recreation, will host its annual backpacking trip to Grand Canyon National Park this November. The group will depart on Nov. 22 and drive to Arizona. Participants will then backpack throughout the park for 4 days and 3 nights.

The trip offers participants unique opportunities to explore the National Park System while hiking and camping at new sites each day. The group will enjoy a Thanksgiving dinner from within the canyon before returning to Arkansas on November 30.

"We are really excited to continue our tradition of offering a Grand Canyon Backpacking program,” said Adam Williams, graduate assistant for the Outdoor Connection Center. “The opportunity to spend Thanksgiving break in one of the great natural wonders of the world will be an unforgettable experience!"

This trip is most appropriate for individuals with moderate hiking and backpacking experience. The cost for the trip is $550 for University of Arkansas students and $600 for university faculty, staff, or UREC members. The cost includes all transportation, food while camping, permits, camping/cooking equipment, and transportation insurance. A $99 deposit is due at the time of registration.

Registration is limited to six participants and will be filled on a first-come-first-served basis. The registration deadline is Nov. 12. Individuals may register online at urec.uark.edu member services or in-person at the OCC in HPER 102. For more information visit urec.uark.edu, email camp@uark.edu, or call 575-CAMP (2267).
