FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas public radio station, KUAF 91.3 FM, will kick off its fall on-air fundraiser Friday, Oct. 24. It will conclude on Halloween, Friday, Oct. 31, with “Trick or Treat at the Station.” Employees and volunteers will be dressed in costume and have candy for those who want to bring contributions in person.

Volunteers will be on hand throughout the fall fundraiser to answer phones and take payments and pledges. The station is looking for additional volunteers and promises to keep them well fed thanks to food donations from several local restaurants..

In addition to the one-week on-air pledge drive, all of October is a fundraising month for KUAF, and all contributions collected during this month will count toward the $185,000 goal. The station has raised $6,609 so far, and the number of contributions continues to grow.

The fundraising goal includes a portion of the cost of a new back-up transmitter. KUAF's transmitter is 25 years old and will need to be replaced within the next two years, and the new equipment will be purchased as a precaution. The cost of the back-up transmitter has been divided among the three on-air fundraisers scheduled for the 2015 fiscal year.

KUAF is a listener-supported service of the Walter J. Lemke Department of Journalism in the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences. The station has more than 3,300 annual donors and receives nearly 70 percent of its annual funding from membership and underwriting. It reaches a weekly audience of 60,000 listeners throughout Northwest Arkansas, southern Missouri, eastern Oklahoma and the River Valley. The station’s fundraiser helps to keep local and national programs on the air.

Pledges to help the station reach its goal may be made by calling 479-575-5823 or online. Those interested in volunteering during the fundraiser should contact Leigh Wood at lkwood@uark.edu, or (479) 575-7259.
