This Week in the Visual and Performing Arts: Oct. 10-17

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences will hold many events in the coming week including a theater production, film screenings, art exhibits, recitals and concerts. Students, faculty, staff and guests are encouraged to attend these performances in the visual and performing arts.

Jennifer Burks will perform a voice recital on Friday, Oct. 10, at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center’s Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall. She will be accompanied by Kristy Mezines.

Lia Uribe, assistant professor of music, will give a bassoon recital Sunday, Oct. 12, at 3 p.m. in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall. Guest faculty performers will include Rona Mains, flute and Theresa Delaplain, oboe.

Also on Sunday, Stephanie Burnett will perform a voice recital at 6 p.m. in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

A screening of the newly rediscovered 1928 film Ramona will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13, in Old Main’s Giffels Auditorium. The silent film will be accompanied by the Mont Alto Motion Picture Orchestra. A discussion with guest scholar Joanna Hearne will precede the screening, and a reception and book signing follow.

University of Arkansas Schola Cantorum will perform at the Walton Arts Center at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14. The concert will feature settings of the Gloria by legendary Venetian composers Andrea and Giovanni Gabrieli, Claudio Monteverdi, and Antonio Vivaldi. Admission is $1 for students with a valid University of Arkansas ID and $5 for general public.

Temporarily Indefinite and ART21 film Legacy will have an opening reception at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, at sUgAR, the student art gallery. The gallery is located at 1 East Square Plaza in Fayetteville. The exhibit continues until Wednesday, Oct. 29, and gallery hours are 3:30-6:30 p.m. Monday and Wednesday and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday.

The University of Arkansas New Music Ensemble will present “Brush Strokes and Music Notes” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, in the Stella Boyle Concert Hall. The concert will include three works that represent or incorporate visual art.  

Performances of Godspell will continue until Oct.12 in the University Theatre. Performances begin at 8 p.m. Oct. 10 and 11, and at 2 p.m. Oct. 12. Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors, faculty, and staff, and $5 for students.

Stationary Realms, an exhibit by multiple artists, will remain on display through Oct. 24 in the Fine Arts Center Gallery. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

A display of printmaking student work of assistant professor Sean Morrissey continues until Oct. 17 in the Fine Arts Center Gallery exhibition cases.

Stationary Realms, an exhibit by multiple artists, will remain on display through Friday, Oct. 24, in the Fine Arts Center Gallery. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Artwork from printmaking and ceramics classes will be on display in the hallway cases in the Fine Arts Center throughout October.

The Arkansas Experience in the First World War, an exhibition of artifacts including uniforms, helmets, weapons and photos, will remain on display through December in the Bogle Exhibit Hall on the 5th floor of Old Main.
