FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Jeff Miller, professor of agricultural communications in the Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences at the University of Arkansas, has been awarded the VIP Citation by the National Future Farmers of America.

The VIP award recognizes Miller’s contributions and dedication to the FFA and agricultural education, helping build strong character in members, their families, and their communities and industries.

Miller, who is retiring from the National FFA Agricultural Communications Career Development Event Committee at the end of the year, was one of 17 national award winners. He served on the committee for 14 years, which plans and conducts the yearly national convention, and worked with more than 2,300 FFA members from across the country.

“My service to FFA has been a great investment personally and professionally,” said Miller. “The Bumpers College's relationship with FFA at the state and national level has always been strong, and several of us on the faculty have worked to keep it that way by volunteering in the organization. Many of the students we recruit into Bumpers College programs have strong ties to FFA, so the relationship is mutually beneficial.”

Miller, who is a faculty member in the Department of Agricultural Education, Communication and Technology, is superintendent of the Arkansas State FFA Agricultural Communications Career Development Event and serves as adviser for the U of A Collegiate Farm Bureau chapter.

Miller is a native of Mustang, Oklahoma. He earned his master's in English in 1995 and his doctorate in agricultural education in 2001, both from Oklahoma State University. He earned his bachelor’s in English from Northeastern State University at Tahlequah, Oklahoma, in 1991.

The National FFA Organization is a national youth organization of 579,678 student members as part of 7,570 local FFA chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. The FFA mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
