Hettiarachchy Elected President of Arkansas Stem Cell Coalition

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Navam Hettiarachchy, University Professor in the Department of Food Science at the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture, was elected president of Arkansas Stem Cell Coalition for 2014-15. She was elected during the third Arkansas Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine conference held Oct. 17 and 18 at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock.
The conference was sponsored by UAMS, the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville; the Arkansas Biosciences Institute, the Arkansas Research Alliance, the National Center for Toxicological Research and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Hettiarachchy delivered two posters and one oral presentation on her research of rice bran derived pentapeptide in the prevention of breast cancer. Her research project was supported by a grant from the Arkansas Breast Cancer Research Programs. The UAMS Translational Research Institute provided resources during the review and selection process.
