FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Staff members from The Office for Sustainability at the University of Arkansas are visiting classrooms this semester to inform students about the opportunities for recycling on campus.

During September Carlos Ochoa, director of sustainability, and office interns organized a 20-minute presentation explaining the basics of recycling on campus.

“We explain why recycling is important, what you’re able to recycle on campus, where to recycle and explain some of the recycling process,” said Ochoa.

The presentation also informs students of ways they can volunteer with the Office for Sustainability and leaves them with information if they are interested in any of the sustainability courses offered on campus.

“We mention it all... we are mostly focused on recycling and the zero-waste initiative, but we do mention some of the other events, especially things involving food waste, like Project Clean Plate and the Razorback Food Recovery Network,” said Theresa Ehrlich, Office for Sustainability intern.

Members of the organization’s staff is available to speak to as many of the University Perspective classes as possible this semester, and faculty of other courses are welcome to ask that the presentation be made to their classes as well.
