Example of an Altmetrics Score

Luti Salisbury, University Professor and Librarian, will be conducting a hands-on workshop titled “Measuring Scholarly Impact of Research at the Personal or Departmental Level” next week in Mullins Library. Participants will learn how to use both conventional metrics and software (such as Science Citation Index, SciFinder, Journal Citation Reports, and many other specific subject databases), as well as Altmetrics, to build a portfolio that demonstrates value.

The information presented will be useful to anyone who wants to learn how to measure the impact of their research compared to their peers, or how to compare the impact of their department and/or group research to peer groups/departments in their field, either here on campus or at other institutions. The workshop will be especially useful for faculty who will be applying for tenure and/or promotion in the near future, those who need to identify peer reviewers, or those who would like to demonstrate the scholarly impact of their research.

“Measuring Scholarly Impact of Research at the Personal or Departmental Level” is free and open to anyone interested, although space is limited and registration is encouraged.

The session will be held twice next week: on Tuesday, Nov. 11, from 10:30-11:30 a.m., and Wednesday, Nov. 12, from 1:30–2:30 p.m., in Mullins Library Room 102. Visit the Libraries' Instruction page to register.
