The Associated Student Government Graduate Student Congress will be hosting a National Call-Congress Day on behalf of the National Association of Graduate-Professional Students and invites graduate students and any participation. The event will take place from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, in the ASG offices in the Arkansas Union, A669.

Student loan debt is a financial burden faced by many students, graduate and undergraduate alike. Participation in the National Call Day is a unique opportunity to express your thoughts about student loan interest rates with members of your congressional delegation and to work in support of a bipartisan issue with students from across Arkansas’ flagship institution.

"Our goal is to contribute over 100 calls to achieve our national goal of 3,000,” said Alex Marino, Graduate Student Congress speaker.

A Nov. 9 Time magazine article noted that, “Graduate students now collectively owe as much as 40 percent of the estimated $1.2 trillion in outstanding student debt, according to the New America Foundation, even though they make up only 14 percent of all university enrollment.”

At the event, telephone numbers, information sheets, and scripts will be available; participants are asked to bring their cell phones.

Any questions should be referred to Arley Ward, treasurer of the ASG Graduate Student Congress, at asggctrs@uark.edu and more information can be found at the GSC Facebook event page.
