CELDi's New Center for Army Analysis to Support U.S. Army

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Center for Excellence in Logistics and Distribution (CELDi) in the Department of Industrial Engineering recently welcomed a new member, the Center for Army Analysis. The Center for Army Analysis supports the United States Army by performing analyses on the composition, capabilities, and requirements of future Army forces. Their functions include analyzing strategic concepts and military options, conducting resource analysis, evaluating force capabilities, designing Army forces and evaluating force alternatives.

One of the objectives of the Center for Army Analysis is to evaluate the Army’s ability to mobilize and deploy forces. CELDi plans to assist with this objective by supporting the development and expansion of Decision Analysis and Military Value Analysis models and tools. In addition, this project will support the development of materials for the senior leader interview process and provide assistance in conducting some of the interviews that will identify the critical logistics and distribution issues that must be addressed by the stationing models. 

Greg Parnell, the principal investigator for this CELDi project, was recently appointed as research professor and director of the Master of Science in Operations Management Program in the industrial engineering department. His teaching and research includes decision and risk analysis, systems engineering and management, project management, and operations research.

CELDi is a National Science Foundation Industry/University Cooperative Research Center. At this center, engineering faculty from the University of Arkansas, Clemson University, Virginia Tech, the University of California, Berkeley and the University of Missouri collaborate with members of industry to identify and carry out research projects in the area of logistics and distribution that are the most relevant to industry needs. CELDi’s 15 member organizations come from commercial, military and government sectors of the economy.
