This Week in the Visual and Performing Arts: Dec. 1-5

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences will host many events this week, including concerts, art exhibitions, a guest lecture and a film screening. Students, faculty, staff and guests are encouraged to attend these events in the visual and performing arts.

The University of Arkansas Tuba and Euphonium Quartets will perform at 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 1, in the Fine Arts Center’s Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

Later that evening in Stella Boyle Smith, Jackie Anderson will perform an oboe recital at 8 p.m.

Yudai Hironaka will give a euphonium recital at 6 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 2, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall. Hironaka will be accompanied by Tomoko Kashiwagi and Yoko Fukuda.

Also on Tuesday in Stella Boyle Smith, Timothy Clifford will perform a percussion recital at 8 p.m.

Nadi Cinema presents Here Comes the Rain (directed by Bahij Hojeij, Lebanon 2010) at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3, in the Hembree Auditorium, Room 107E in the Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences building.

Also on Wednesday, Praise the Lord! Celebrating the life of Eddie Jones, a concert honoring the late associate professor of music, will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the Walton Arts Center in Fayetteville.

The University of Arkansas New Music Ensemble will perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

Guest scholar Frank Russo, associate professor of psychology at Ryerson University, will give a lecture on the cognitive science of music at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, in Room 115 of the George and Joyce Billingsley Music Building.

Also on Friday, the Beginning Band Ensemble will perform at 6 p.m. in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

Later that evening in Stella Boyle Smith, Rachel Phillippe and Melissa Phillips will give a violin recital at 8 p.m.

Luscious: The Body Adorned, an exhibition curated by Cynthia Norse Thompson, will close Friday, Dec. 5, in the Fine Arts Center Gallery. Gallery hours are from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 2 p.m.-5 p.m. Sunday.

The Arkansas Experience in the First World War, an exhibition of artifacts including uniforms, helmets, weapons and photos will remain on display through December in the Bogle Exhibit Hall on the fiftth floor of Old Main.
