As the fall semester winds down, University Recreation has several diverse recreational opportunities offered for the U of A community. In the final week of school, UREC is hosting multiple special events and open recreation time that includes basketball, restorative yoga, racquetball, badminton, bouldering, and more.

These opportunities are offered as a chance to help the university community transition from the busy academic semester into winter break.

The Outdoor Connection Center's Winter Bouldering Competition, Candlelight Yoga, and group fitness classes held during finals week are events offered to students, UREC members, and the U of A community as opportunities to relax, exercise, and stay active during the end of the semester.

"We understand the deadlines and stress levels that students, faculty, and staff are under this time of year and feel the best prescription is recreation and wellness," said Jeremy Battjes, director of university recreation. "UREC offers several opportunities to keep the mind and body sharp and engaged during the end of semester rush and holiday season."

Events and winter break hours of operation are listed below:

  • The bouldering competition is from 6-9 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, in HPER 102.
  • Candlelight Yoga is also Thursday, Dec. 11, from 5-7 p.m. in HPER 220. This event is open to students, UREC members, and the entire U of A community on a drop-in basis. Candlelight Yoga is a chance for participants to de-stress before final exams.
