FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The utility operations department in Facilities Management will turn off all electricity to the main University of Arkansas campus beginning at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6. The power will be turned on and off to the campus in sections by 7:30 a.m.

If power is not restored to your building by 7:45 a.m. contact UAPD at 575-2222 and ask to have Power Distribution respond to the problem.

During the outage there will be no elevator service, heat, or fume hood exhaust in campus buildings. There may be an interruption in Campus Networking Services, all though data centers will be operating. Consult UITS before the outage if you have specific concerns about network connectivity.

All electrical equipment in campus offices and labs – for example, computers, research instruments, servers, copy machines, routers and switches – should be shut off Monday evening to avoid potential damage.

All lab activities and research materials should also be secured.

This outage is to enable crews to install new switchgear for the Combined Heating and Power system being installed at the Central Utility Plant. The new swithchgear will allow the campus to take power from both SWEPCO and the new gas turbine generator in the Central Utility Plant.

The power outage is being timed to cause the least possible impact to campus and the actual duration of the outage to any one area of campus should be minimal.

The power outage will only affect main campus buildings and operations. It will not affect the Arkansas Research and Technology Park, the Cato Springs Research Center, the Agriculture Experiment Station, Global Campus, One East Center, the World Trade Center Arkansas, Uptown campus, or other off campus sites. It could however, affect network connectivity to sites away from the main campus, depending on the location of key network switches. Consult UITS Network Operations if you believe this will affect your specific operation.

Following the outage, Facility Management staff will insure that all building system operations return to normal. If there are facility service issues that need to be addressed following the outage, please call the FAMA Service Desk at 575-5050 to report the problem.
