Registered Student Organization monthly winners

Student Organization Outreach and Involvement Experience (SOOIE) announces the December registered student organization, adviser, member, and event of the month winners.

The Event of the Month is “The Face of Brazil” which was hosted by Brazilian Student Organization. This event took place on Dec. 5, 2014, in Pomfret Hall. More than 350 students attended the event, which showcased Brazilian culture through performances and Brazilian cuisine. “We wanted to create community, develop relationships with other cultures, and expose our traditions to the university,” said Flavia Araujo, a member of the Brazilian Student Organization.

Curt Rom, adviser of GroGreen and Bumpers College Honors Student Board is the December adviser of the month. Rom advises two RSOs and serves as the Dean of the Honors College. Taylor Farr, a student who works with Rom said, “He doesn’t see impossibilities to problems but problems to be solved.” Farr also stated, “He pushes students to achieve and provides the network of support and connections to help them. He is someone who could teach a classroom of 1000 while still being able to connect with every student.”

Member of the Month is Katherine Grotowski of the Student Nurse Association. Grotowski is a junior and has been a member of the organization for two years. She serves as the webmaster for the Student Nurse Association and was recently elected president of the state Student Nurse Association for Arkansas and will now lead all the chapters in the state. Allison Scott said, “Kat is organized, very goal-driven, and does not hesitate to offer new ideas to improve the organization. She is a true leader.” Grotowski also serves as a student ambassador.

Members of the campus community are invited to make nominations for Event, Advisor, or Member of the month for any currently active Registered Student Organization.
