Arkansas Alpha Chapter of Tau Beta Pi Awards Scholarships

The Arkansas Alpha chapter of Tau Beta Pi awards scholarships to members every semester through the Ray L. Belknap Class of 1919 Tau Beta Pi Scholarship. For the spring 2015 semester, the chapter awarded $12,575 to student members based on their service to the organization.

Each student’s application was reviewed by the chapter’s advisors and evaluated on chapter meeting engagement, event participation, conference travel, and initiation attendance. These awards are given for general academic funding, materials and supplies for design projects, and travel to design competitions.

Tau Beta Pi is the nation’s oldest engineering honor society in the United States, and the second oldest Greek letter honor society following Phi Beta Kappa in the liberal arts. The society was founded in 1885 at Lehigh University and is the only engineering honor society to represent the entire engineering profession.

Tau Beta Pi’s public motto of “Integrity and Excellence in Engineering” serves as the founding principle for the organization. Currently, there are 242 active collegiate chapters of which Arkansas Alpha is the 28th oldest. The chapter is active in community service projects and promoting leadership in all disciplines of engineering.
