This Week in the Visual and Performing Arts: Jan. 30-Feb. 6
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences will host several events this week, including faculty and guest artist recitals, a music symposium, a guest artist lecture and workshop, an art exhibition and a play. Students, faculty, staff and guests are encouraged to attend these events in the visual and performing arts.
Storm at Sea by Radcliffe Bailey, will open Friday, Jan. 30, in the Fine Arts Center Gallery. The exhibition will continue until Friday, Feb. 20. Gallery hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 2 p.m.-5 p.m. Sunday.
Performances associated with the Dr. Eddie Wade Jones Memorial Black Music Symposium will be held throughout the day Friday, Jan. 30, and Saturday, Jan. 31, in the Fine Arts Center’s Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.
The Mountaintop, a play by Katori Hall will open Friday, Jan. 30, and continue until Sunday, Feb. 1, in Kimpel Hall room 404. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Sunday. Ticket prices are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and University of Arkansas faculty and staff and $5 for students with valid student ID. Due to high demand and limited seating, it is strongly recommended that patrons make reservations or purchase tickets in advance. Guest artist Eric Stomberg will give a bassoon concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.
Visiting ceramic artist Ryan McKerley will give a lecture and workshop at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, and at 9 a.m. Friday, Feb. 6, in Hillside Auditorium.
Guest artist Allison Storochuk (clarinet) and assistant professor Lia Uribe (bassoon) will perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.
