Canadian Professor of Medicine to Give Lecture in Hydration Series

William Clark, a professor of medicine at Western University Canada, will speak on "Water and Chronic Kidney Disease: The Final Frontier" at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, on the University of Arkansas campus.

The lecture will take place in Room 103 of the Health, Physical Education and Recreation Building. It is free and open to the public. RSVP is required by emailing jxa014@uark.edu.

The lecture is part of the Hydration Lecture Series presented by the Human Performance Laboratory in the College of Education and Health Professions.

Clark is also a scientist at the Lawson Health Research Institute, a director of apheresis, consulting nephrologist at the London Health Sciences Centre and a clinician scientist in the Program of Experimental Medicine. His research has been directed at interventions that prevent progressive renal disease and is based on in vitro and in vivo animal and human experimentation as well as observational studies and randomized controlled trials.

Clark has written more than 382 scholarly publications. He serves on the boards of the World Apheresis Association and the Canadian Apheresis Group and is scientific co-chair, Biomedical Research Council of the Kidney Foundation of Canada and a member of the Canadian Society of Nephrology Scientific Committee.

He is the 2012 recipient of the National Medal of Research Excellence of the Kidney Foundation of Canada and the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal and a recently elected Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences. In 2014, he received the Harold W. Ashenmil National Award from the Kidney Foundation of Canada in recognition of leadership and development.
