FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas is giving its news service a complete makeover, including a new website that will launch on March 2. For a sneak preview, go to news.uark.edu.

The new website has a cleaner, more modern look and structure, with a design that allows for more pictures. It also provides more options for sharing stories via social media and offering opinions through the comment section.

“As always, feedback about the news site or the Arkansas Newswire email can be sent to editor@uark.edu,” said Charlie Alison, executive editor for the Office of University Relations. “When we launched Arkansas Newswire five years ago we recognized that the traditional media market was contracting and that the university would need to tell its own story. The new site – University of Arkansas News – moves the university further in that direction.”

Type in your email address and click "subscribe."

In addition to the new university news site, the Arkansas Newswire email will also have a new look. Arkansans, parents, alumni and anyone around the world who is a fan of the University of Arkansas can keep up with the campus news by subscribing to the Newswire email via the news page. Look for the subscribe box.

“We’ve done a lot of testing with select members of the campus community, but we still want feedback from students, faculty and staff before we officially shift over to the new site,” said Chris Nixon, director of digital design and development for the Office of University Relations.

Although the visual design is the most obvious change, people who submit stories to University of Arkansas News will find other changes as well.  The news submission page and the event submission page have new addresses. A new archives page allows readers to look through older news articles by publication date or browse by topic or college. All those navigational links can be found at the bottom of any news page. Users should bookmark the submission pages they use frequently.

“In fact, I’d recommend everyone bookmark the University of Arkansas News page itself to make it their homepage,” said Alison.
