This Week in the Visual and Performing Arts: Feb. 27-March 6

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences will host several music performances, an art exhibition and two plays this week. Students, faculty, staff and guests are encouraged to attend these events in the visual and performing arts.

Faculty members will join guest artists to present The Vivaldi Project at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27, in the Fine Arts Center’s Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall. The ensemble includes guest artists Christopher Koch (alto recorder), Trilla Ray Carter (cello) and Raul Munguia (violin); faculty members Lia Uribe (bassoon) and Theresa Delaplain (oboe); and student S. Michael Shuman (harpsichord).

Later that evening, guest artist Annie Balabanian will give a piano recital at 8 p.m. in Old Main’s Giffels Auditorium.

The RAZORBONES will give a recital in conjunction with the Arkansas Trombone Workshop at 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

Leanne Scaggs will give a vocal recital at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 1, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

The 2015 Bachelor of Fine Arts Exhibition will open Monday, March 2, in The Fine Arts Center Gallery. Gallery hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday and 2 p.m.-5 p.m. Sunday.

Also on Monday, guest artists Michael Rowlett and Adam Estes will give a clarinet and saxophone recital at 7:30 p.m. in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

Guest artist Brent Bristow will give a saxophone recital at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

Also on Tuesday, the University of Arkansas Symphony Orchestra Concert will perform at 7:30 p.m. at the Walton Arts Center. Admission is $1 for students with valid ID and $5 for general public.

The University of Arkansas Concert Choir and Women’s Chorus will perform at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

The Mana Saxophone Quartet will give a recital at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 5, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

The University of Arkansas Department of Theatre presents Kill/Shot by Rachel Washington. The play opens at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 5, in Kimpel Hall room 404 with additional performances at 7:30 p.m. March 6-8. Ticket prices are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and University of Arkansas faculty and staff and $5 for students with valid student ID. Due to high demand and limited seating, it is strongly recommended that patrons make reservations or purchase tickets in advance. The University of Arkansas Department of Theatre’s The Foreigner by Larry Shue continues with performances at 8 p.m. Feb. 27-28 and at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 1. Ticket prices are $25 for adults, $15 for seniors and University of Arkansas faculty and staff, and $5 for students with valid student ID.
