This Week in the Visual and Performing Arts: March 6-13

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences will host several music performances, two art exhibitions, several artist presentations, two film screenings and a play this week. Students, faculty, staff and guests are encouraged to attend these events in the visual and performing arts.

Kansas State University students involved in an exhibition at sUgAR, the University of Arkansas student art gallery, will present talks about their work at 2:30 p.m. Friday, March 6, at the University of Arkansas Ceramics Building.

That evening, a reception in conjunction with the 2015 Bachelor of Fine Arts Exhibition will be held at 5:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center Gallery.

Also on Friday, the Tournées Film Festival: French Films on Campus presents Dans la Maison/In the House (dir. François Ozon, France 2012) at 7 p.m. in Ozark Hall room 26.

Later that evening, the Arkansas Quartet, University of Arkansas Saxophone Chamber Ensemble and Mana Saxophone Quartet will perform in conjunction with the Arkansas Saxophone Symposium, at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center's Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

The University of Arkansas Department of Theatre's Kill/Shot by Rachel Washington continues with performances at 7:30 p.m. March 6-8, and an extra performance at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 8, in Kimpel Hall room 404. Ticket prices are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and University of Arkansas faculty and staff and $5 for students with valid student ID. Due to high demand and limited seating, it is strongly recommended that patrons make reservations or purchase tickets in advance. Leanne Scaggs, soprano, Tori Bingham, oboe, and Hannah Mindeman, piano, will give a recital at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 8, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

The University of Arkansas Wind Ensemble will give a concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 9, at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas.

The 2015 Bachelor of Fine Arts Exhibition will close Thursday, March 12. The exhibit has been on display since March 2 in The Fine Arts Center Gallery. Gallery hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday and 2 p.m.-5 p.m. Sunday.

Also on Thursday, the University of Arkansas Inspirational Chorale will perform at 7:30 p.m. in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

The Tournées Film Festival: French Films on Campus presents Quai d'Orsay/The French Minister (dir. Bertrand Tavernier, France 2013) at 7 p.m. Friday, March 13, in Ozark Hall room 26.

Also on Friday, the University of Arkansas Voice Studio of Moon-Sook Park will give a recital at 7:30 p.m. in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

sUgAR, the University of Arkansas student art gallery, continues an exhibit of artwork by the Kansas State University graduate and post-baccalaureate students until Thursday, March 19. sUgAR is located at 1 E. Center Street in downtown Fayetteville, and gallery hours are Monday and Wednesday from 11:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. This is the second stage of an exhibition exchange between the ceramics students at the University of Arkansas and those at Kansas State University.
